chapter 7 - terms...   know the different barometer types.   know a realistic atmospheric pressure at ground level.   know how to read the maps as given in chapter 7

Chapter [11]: Terms.   Know the upper-case letter designations for all Koppen climate classifications, and the lower-case letters for all North American climates.   Know in general what the letters designate.   If supplied with fig. as in exercise, be able to classify a climate.   know what climate to classify if supplied with climographs and a "multiple guess" list of possibilities.   know the climates as shown in climographs in the textbook.

Chapter 9: (week of October 16-17) Terms-words-jargon-names-what things are called, etc.    Know how to read the basic weather map symbols.   Know the different weather fronts and their map designations.   Know how to read a basic weather map (give the conditions at different sites and predict immediate future conditions such as rain or temperature changes).

Chapter 10 [water budget]: Terms, and what's worse - as I warned - be able to complete the water budget!   Probably I'll give you the table with a few strategic omissions, and you'll have to fill it in.   Know the reasons why some areas are "dry", even though they have "lots" of precipitation.   A review of this is here!

Chapter 18: Terms, of course.    See table in chapter.   Be able to give some characteristics which DIFFERENTIATE various biomes.   Suggestion: for each biome listed, find one characteristic in each category which is different from the other biomes (or if there are none, the one which is shared by the least number of biomes).   Answers like the infamous "lots of trees" are bad...   Answers on soil types and temperature patterns, precipitation patterns, vegetation characteristics are good!  Know the locations in North America of major biomes.

Chapter 12: Study from your worksheet (which you should have xeroxed before turning in), and be able to answer these questions.   Know the terms in chapter 12, and those encountered in the computer exercise and worksheet.   Know the different plate boundaries (see figs. in workbook, and ESP. IN TEXTBOOK; remember these figures are given  in color in the textbook).   As on the assignment, be able to give some evidence for the major "parts" of the plate tectonic theory.   Know about hot-spots, the Hawaiian Islands, ridges and trenches...

Chapters 14, 15, 17 [topography]:   Know the basics of topographic map reading, so that you may recognize these landforms on such maps, as in the exercises.   Know the terms in the chapters, and more importantly, know each of the landforms described, how they are formed, and what they look like (on a map, a picture, or drawing).   The textbook might help.   Don't worry about figure 14-2, Step 3 on p. 248-250, Step 2 on p. 254-255.
