Frangelico, the neighbor cat!

This is the (former) neighbor cat, the barn cat (now the house cat). His full name is Orangelo (from orange jello) Frangelico Clyde, but I've been calling him Fran for short. Sometimes I call him Frank, too. Or Fran the fabulously friendly farmyard feline for long, etc.

He'd been living around the farmyard here where I live south of Moscow for about 2 years before Mr. Q and I showed up, I've been told. After many unsuccessful attempts to lure him over all spring 2011 with meowk, cheese, kibbles, etc., he suddenly became a regular fixture at my house (esp. around supper and breakfast times) this summer.

By profession a "barn cat", he is extremely friendly and really likes housecatty things like getting petted and scratched, playing with any/all toys, purring, and meowing for food. He likes to be inside for a little proper cat appreciation in the mornings and at night, but by about 4 or 5am, when it's good hunting outside, he's meowing to go out (until breakfast is served up, about 7 or 8).

If I'm home (or not during winter) he's totally fine with lounging around all day inside, close to Mr. Q, in various stretched out 'action poses' fast asleep on the softest, coziest blanket. 'Action poses' I call them, because, although he's fast asleep and upside down, he is gracefully stretched paw to paw and if you took a picture and photoshopped him against some sky and treetops (and flipped him right-side up), t'd look as though he were soaring over the treetops in a great leap.

He has "the magic levitating paw", too, which is one hand (sometimes two!) that mysteriously rises higher and higher from the floor when he's getting his ears scratched! He's very healthy, smart, and fastidious - and a doggoned good hunter. And he is, without a doubt, the most playful cat I've ever met. Permanently in that 'everything is always a toy, to the max' kitten mode, permanently. These qualities have made him a very successful living on his own barn cat, and are now also making him a little fat and energetic housecat! He's also very polite once you tell him what not to do (like stealing Mr. Q's supper!)

By now (February 2012) there's no denying it: Fran is my other pet cat! He still works most early mornings and days as a barn cat, though (most weekends he has off and stays inside - at least in the winter!). If he's still hungry after supper (he usually is), he'll go outside and in minutes have a fat mouse.

Mr. Q pretends to find Fran's hobo ways rude, boorish, and uncouth. They sometimes used to hiss or growl at one another (inside; usually Q>F), and sometimes a chase occurred (outside, usually F>Q, and usually because Fran wanted to play 'kitten tackle' games). Not long ago, when I wasn't paying attention, they were both playing by hiding and pouncing on each other! They usually politely touch noses, rub against, and sniff each other when meeting up, and like having each other around! When both're outside when you see one the other's almost never far away. They like to lay down with each other - not too close usually, but touching distance. One time I saw them both stretched out 'half moon' shaped, facing each other but far enough apart that their paw-tips were touching! Sometimes, though, Fran has had to lay half on top of Q to fit onto the pillow they both like (Q doesn't mind). They are the best of friends, and always interested in what the other's doing!
