It is well known that Fran is one of the most adventuresome cats in the North country. In addition to running a farmyard on his own for years in Idaho before moving to Alaska to become an Alaskat, he is well known for his skills at hunting and catching everything from dragonflies, frogs, shrews, and voles to full-size rabbits. Because he does not want to be arrested by NPR he stays (mostly) away from birds. He is also the world's best tree climber -- he was able, for instance, to climb anything to reach the scariest heights in the upper areas of his barn and outbuildings when he ran the farm in Idaho. So it should come as no surprise that he also knows how to climb the more gentile ladders or other items to access desired locations as an Alaskat (he eschews the skinny spruces here except in case of emergency).
Here he is then in such action: in 2015 getting up on my back shed where I'd put the catnip plants to keep him from mowing them down, then later that summer to explore the rooftop across the road (note the wire rung ladder - that's a rooftop garden), then just the other day (April 2016; once enough snow melted) he was up there again. He says the asphalt tiles, clean air, view, and open space up there allow him to think and scheme more clearly and that while there he might be known as 'Sky-Cat'.
I also have some pix (that I oughta post later) of him climbing a ladder to get up on my fuel tank to access the catnip plants I'd tried to keep out of his reach that you can see him enjoying in the last two pictures.
Excuse the off-y colo(u)rs; when news like this breaks I haven't the time to zap them correctly is it is very important to get the pictures out to The People in a timely manner (between 2 days and 10 months in this case). Also excuse the condition of the house (but note the fine views, which are also mine), which has been unoccupied for a few years, and which is Fran's favorite hunting area.

The down-leap 2 (note tail balance that almost conveys the action [and tin roof clunk] here in still life).

Now digging the roof garden!
(and for digging in the roof garden, he'd got that covered [pun intended] as well, in his potty spot around the corner.)
