Negaunee caving ground, ghost neighbourhood.
These steps, and all those in a several blocks area, lead to houses that were removed in the 40s-70s. Spooky, and this area was officially closed for decades, finally re-opened in part ~12 years ago.

Not all the ruins in the area are from the 19th century and the result of far-off corporate decisions and cost/benefit analyses - this modern at the time supermarket was built in 1965, but was displaced by farther out, larger, non-local chains that the locals shopped at, driving this last downtown Negaunee grocery out of business in the 1990s after it was bought by the Duluth-based Super-One chain (which is a decent store nonetheless of those left in the area).

I'm not sure how much if any of the iron from the UP found its way to English steel bicycle tubing over the years, but the Kibo paid its respects to its steel mineral family here nonetheless.
